I chose three icons that spans every age group to show three icons that I have dealt with on a personal level. The first icon I chose is Lego building blocks. Lego’s are fun toys for young kids to learn how to build with and create imaginary objects. The second icon is the PS3 game system. This game system is geared more towards teenagers, and gives them hours of enjoyment. Finally, the third icon is the Harley Davidson Motorcycles which is geared towards the big boys so they can have fun, too.
I chose the Lego build blocks because when my children was little we had so many Lego’s in my house. They were everywhere and I could not go into a store without my children recognizing the Lego symbol. They loved playing with the Lego’s but the only problem was that we never had enough special pieces. I mean the pieces like the wheels, tires, steering wheels, or anything to build a proper car. This always caused arguments between the two of them and caused me to buy more and more Lego’s, I think this is how the Lego Company sold so many pieces. So I can say that the Lego icon means to mean hours of play time for my children and a few moments of arguments over the special pieces.
Second I chose the Play Station 3 game system and that is because as my children have grown older they have gone from fighting over Lego’s to fighting over the PS3 game system. So this icon means more money to spend to try to keep the children entertained and to make them happy.
Finally the last icon, the Harley Davidson Motorcycle, makes me think of the ability to relax and not hear my children fight over the PS3. Now that my children are older I can take a ride with my husband and forget about the fighting, which started over Lego’s and now involved to the PS3, and just feel the wind through my hair.

Assignment 1-4
With the raise in the popularity of NASCAR over the years hundreds of thousands of fan gather around their televisions or the race tracks to watch cars go round and round a track. This culture of race fans has been changing from what it started out to be. Also the sense of community has grown and even has created subcultures within the community.
On any given Sunday from mid February to mid November race fans gather to watch their favorite driver try to win the race of the day. These fans are some of the most loyal fans that any sport could have. Some would say that these fans are racist and sexist males because most of the fans consist of white working class males. This might be true for some of the fans but as the sport continues to grow there are more women and other races becoming fans of the sport.
Also among these fans is a sense of community that is broke down by the type of car and driver. So in other words the fans are actually broken down into subcultures. First the fans are divided by the type of motor in the cars. Such as; a Chevy, Ford, Dodge or the newest Toyota motors. After the culture has been divided by motors then the culture is divided by drivers. These fans of the drivers are extremely loyal to their driver and would do about anything for their driver.

Assignment 1-2
Popular culture is anything that can make you think of a certain product or service. There a symbols, images, characters, or sounds that help you recognize a product or service. These symbols will make you remember the product and hopefully help you to decide to buy or use that product or service.
Popular culture is relevant to businesses because if a business can get individuals to recognize their product or service just by a symbol or sound then individuals will tend to remember the product or service for a longer period of time. Every business likes to see individuals singing their theme song or just talking about their commercials. This makes the product or service not only recognizable by the person singing or talking about the product but also to everyone that they come into contact with and communicate about the product or service with.
The gecko for the Geico Insurance commercials is an example of popular culture. The gecko is a good example because he is very recognizable as the little lizard in the Geico commercials. Everyone seems to take notice of the Geico commercials and even can explain what happens in the commercials. Also many times individuals will notice when Geico releases a new commercials and even get excited about it.
